Best Desert in Morocco “Erg Chegaga desert” is the largest Sahara Desert in Morocco, also is the most silent place in the country. Is Located west about 47 KM of Mhamid Elghzalan village.
6 Days (5 nights) – Erg Chegaga
Day 1: Mhamid – Ouad Naam:
We start our trip on the camel to explore and discover very beautiful and wonderful parts of the big desert. We take our way towards the big dunes of Erg Chegaga. After about 3 hours ridding we sit for a lunch break under a shadowy tree. After another 3 hours between ridding and trekking, we set a camp in a dry river (Oued Naam) to spend the night under the stars.
Day 2: Ouad Naam – Lotide:
On the morning, we fasten our luggage and start our trip in the midst of the desert to see and explore more. We cross a big part of the desert area (about 3 hours ridding). Later, we sit for continuing after for another 3 hours walking. We set our camp in a wonderful dune area named Lotide. We will have dinner and night under the starry sky or in the tent.
Day 3: Lotide – Erg Chegaga:
After the sunrise and the morning breakfast, we carry on our trekking with our companion animal (camel) towards the big dunes of Erg Chegaga. Before we reach this large group of dunes, lunch and a cup of tea are offered to relax and get more energy in the Sacred Oasis. This Oasis consists of a small group of palm trees and a source of water which is running the whole year for the nomads to soak their herds and get a little water for survival. After further 15 km, we reach the big dunes of Erg Chegaga with the height of 300 m on a length of 40 km. You enjoy the sunset on the high dunes to taste a different world of calmness and tranquility. We spend the night in the Berber tent in a bivouac. Dinner will be accompanied with local entertainment.
Day 4: Erg Chegaga – Bougarrn Dunes:
After a relaxing night in the big dunes, we make our way back to the desert door (M’hamid). After about 3 hours ridding, we have a break for lunch under a shadowy tree. Later, we continue our exploration to arrive at the dunes of Bougarn for the night in the tent or under the starlit sky.
Day 5: Bougarrn dunes – Dunes of Mezouria:
We get up early morning to enjoy the sunrise. Breakfast will be served in a Moroccan way. Later, we carry on our discovery adventure along a huge area of dunes and desert stones. After lunch, we continue our trekking or ridding towards the dunes of Mezouaria, for the night either in the tent or open air under the starlit sky.
Day 6: Dunes of Mezouira – Mhamid:
On the morning of the sixth day, we carry on our trekking or ridding towards M’hamid. Lunch will be served in the hotel. the end 6 Days (5 nights) Erg Chegaga desert experience.

What to bring with you for this experience:
- Sleeping Bag with or without liner.
- Kleenex, wet wipes, personal hygiene items.
- Sun screen, hat and sunglasses.
- Lip balm, moisturiser.
- Water Bottle for up to 2 litres.
- Trek towel, wash kit.
- Personal medication and first aid kit.
- Shoes for all terrain, flip flops for the evening.
- Plenty of changes of socks at least 2 per day.
- Layers, hat, gloves and rain gear if needed.
- Changes of clothes as required.
- Small day pack to wear.
- Gear bag to go on the mule.
- Change of clothes for the evening / sleeping (always remove cold / sweaty clothes at the end of the days trek).
- Device chargers, adaptors, memory cards and power packs. Some accommodations have limited sockets. A head torch or small torch.
- Some dirhams as there is nowhere to change money. There are some small shops for buying snacks.
These are the things you should bring as well as the recommended items for trekking.
A long cotton scarf to make a turban to protect against the sand. Longer trousers are more comfortable on camels. It can also be cold in the desert at night from November to April, so bring warm clothes for this time; sweater and jacket, hat and gloves. Walking shoes with socks are best, sandals will fill with sand and may irritate your skin. For long winter nights you’ll need to also wear warm socks, long trousers, bring a warm coat, hat, and gloves, it can get very cold.
